The dragon fruit it is quite a popular fruit even in our food market, capable of growing on cactus Hylocereus, a plant native to southern Mexico and Central America, but now grown in much of the world.

The benefits

In addition to the above, it certainly helps to remember that dragon fruit provides our bodies with a long list of benefits.

First of all, it guarantees a good level of antioxidants, compounds that - as known - protect cells from free radicals, linked to the onset of chronic diseases and aging. In this context, the content of flavonoids, a diversified group of antioxidants that promotes better brain health and reduces the risk of heart disease, is important.

Several studies conducted on animals also suggest that the dragon fruit can provide additional benefits, also determined by the high content of fibers.

For example, both red and white varieties of dragon fruit have been shown to reduce insulin resistance and improve liver health. Furthermore, dragon fruit contains prebiotic fibers that promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut, potentially improving metabolic health.

Side effects

Overall, the dragon fruit it's a safe food, well "tolerated" by the body. However, in some rare cases, people can develop an allergic reaction to the intake of this food.
